Save me from the Mexicans!

They're horrible! They're terrible!! Oh, won't someone save me from those scary brown people who build the buildings I live in and work at the restaurants I eat at! Won't someone save me from the Mexicans that hate the US and our way of life and want to see us all dead!

Wait a sec ...

This whole immigration furor is a lie. It's a joke. The border is being militarized by troops that have no legal ability to detain any crossers or take any police action. So what are they going to do? Stand there and sweat? There are much better things my tax dollars could be being spent on, like, say, finding Osama bin Laden. I can not and will not believe that President Bush is capable of protecting this country from terrorist attack until the terrorist behind the 9/11 has been captured or killed. Instead of protecting us from legitimate threats, Bush is protecting us from a group of people that drives a large portion of our economy. Way to go.

Do you want to stop illegal immigration from Mexico? Here's how:
1) Help make Mexico a decent country to live. If we help stabilize the Mexican government and economy by committing as much time and money to Mexico as we do to Iraq, well, I'm sure we'd see a result. There's no reason Mexico shouldn't be as well off as Canada.

2) Make immigration from Mexico legal. Plain and simple. Allow any non-criminal Mexican into the US. Give them a 5-year process to become American and require them to stay in the US for that time. Complete amnesty to all Mexican illegals in this country. I can guarantee you will see an economic benefit from this. You get an increased labor force and an increased market, no more costly border enforcement - just a thriving economy.

Why do Mexicans immigrate? Because they believe in the American Dream. They believe in it so strongly that they risk their lives and the lives of their children in dangerous border corssings. They believe so strongly that they serve in the American military and put their lives on the line before they are asked to do so (they're not American citizens - what duty do they have to defend America). Mexicans believe that America is a shining land of hope and promise - a land where a better future awaits with peace and glory. America is synonomous with Heaven. How can we deny that dream?

And you'll note that I refer to the immigrants as Mexicans, not illegals or border-invaders, because that's what this is all about: white people scared of brown people. There is no legitimate economic reason or issue of national security at stake here - this is racism, pure and simple.

I want real action taken to protect this country - not a show of force on a divisive issue designed to turn attention away from the administration's failures (Osama) and bone-deep corruption (Goss, Lott, et al).
